Program Description:
Puebla Mexico Exchange (UPAEP)

Program Overview:

The Universidad Popular Autónoma del Estado de Puebla (UPAEP) is located just two blocks from the lively Juarez Avenue and a few blocks from Puebla’s historic district. The location is ideal for the student who wants to experience and learn about Mexican life. UPAEP was founded in 1973 and strives to inspire thinking and form leaders that transform society.
Puebla 1

Puebla is located in the heart of Mexico, in the country’s central zone, just 70 miles southeast of Mexico City, near Veracruz, Acapulco, the Mayan Riviera and other cities.

Puebla is the fourth largest metropolitan city in Mexico with a population of nearly two million people. Due to its history and industrial development, it is considered “the city of the student” and one of the most important, beautiful, and peaceful cities in the country. The UPAEP campus is accessible by public transportation. There are many shopping centers, movie theaters, and night clubs nearby.

Upon arrival at UPAEP students take an oral and written Spanish placement test so the appropriate level Spanish course can be assigned. The Spanish courses are part of the benefits offered to non Spanish-speaking exchange students, whether it be for improving Spanish language skills or for learning at a basic level.

There are two options for incoming students based on different levels of Spanish language experience. The first offers students the opportunity to take courses in Spanish language with Mexican students. The second offers courses taught completely in English; no prior Spanish is required to enroll.

Housing & Meals:

The UPAEP offers two options of lodging: UPAEP’s dorms or host families. The UPAEP’s dorms are located four blocks from the main campus. There are limited cooking facilities available in residence hall (microwaves and small stoves) in cooking lounge shared areas.

If students choose to live with a host family, homestay fees are paid to the host family. The fees includes bed linens and blankets, breakfast and dinner as well as all utilities such as wireless internet, light, gas, water and facilities for washing laundry. All host families are within twenty minutes of the UPAEP campus by public transportation.

Travel Arrangements:

Program participants will be responsible for arranging their own airfare. Information is provided for getting to the campus using public transportation.
