Program Description:

Shih Hsin University, located the capital city of Taipei, is one of the top private universities in Taiwan. As the political, economic, and cultural center of Taiwan, Taipei is a vibrant city and a comfortable place to live. Getting around the city is easy, even if you don't speak Mandarin.

Have you wanted to study in China but were concerned about the cost and the fact that you don't speak much, or any, Mandarin? Shih Hsin University might be just what you are looking for!

SHU was founded in 1956 by Mr. Cheng She-Wo, an activist who fought for the freedom of speech and independence for newspapers.  Over 50,000 students have graduated since then, many of them working in journalism and broadcasting.  Shih Hsin University is known for its innovative and global vision.

SHU grew to include four colleges, including the College of Journalism and Communication, the School of Management, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the School of Law.

A selected number of courses are taught in English each semester; course availability changes with each term, but in the past English, Business, and Culture classes were available for English-speaking students. Additionally, all English-speaking students are required to take a Mandarin language course. You will live on campus in a residence hall with other Chinese students; what better place to practice your Mandarin than in a res hall?!

The exchange option allows UWRF students to pay UWRF tuition but attend Shih Hsin University. You will be responsible for your room and board, airfare, personal needs, travel costs, and associated university fees. See the budget sheet for cost details.

This program is available for Fall and Spring semesters. To apply, you must complete both a SHU application as well as an online UWRF application.
